Science Communication

To share my science with a border audience, I use my love of art to create visual lessons, outreach displays, and artistic products that help people learn about the Earth and environment. I think of art as a tool to translate the importance of Earth science.

Art can... Help students understand and retain science

Picture
In teaching undergraduate courses, I use many forms of media for student's independent projects. In demonstrations and active learning approaches, students use drawing and visual activities to synthesize and retain their science learning.

Art can... Teach kids about Climate Change

Picture
I use creative media approaches in my science outreach, including at events at the natural history museum where I worked. I particularly like the medium of children's books to teach science to kids (and adults!)

Art can... Connect us to local ecosystems

I create a lot of place-based art inspired by my research locations. Creating artwork of my research sites helps me connect to my study systems and conduct outreach about these amazing places.
